JAMMU, July 31: Two Army jawans were killed in a mine blast on the Line of Control (LoC) in Kargil sector of Ladakh district. They were part of the patrolling party along the LoC with Pakistan.
They have been identified as Subedar Basappa Patil R/o Gokak, Belgam, Karnataka and Sepoy Hasansab R/o Navalagund, Dharwad, Karnataka.
Defence spokesperson (MoD) Col SD Goswami said the Army soldiers were martyred while patrolling along the LoC in Kargil sector when they were caught in a mine blast. They suffered grievous injuries, which proved to be fatal.
Subedar Basappa is survived by his wife, a daughter and a son while Sepoy Hasansab is survived by his parents, younger sister and brother.
Col Goswami said the wreath laying ceremony of two Army soldiers was held at Leh today in which rich tributes were paid to both the soldiers by officers and jawans of Leh based 14 Corps.
After tributes, mortal remains of the Army soldiers were flown to their native places, where they will be accorded military funerals with full ceremonial honours.
Army had laid mines along the LoC in Kargil sector during 1999 Kargil war and ‘Operation Parakaram’ in 2001-02 after Parliament attack.
Sources said the Army jawans seemed to have stepped over the mine accidentally leading to a powerful explosion. They were immediately evacuated to nearby hospital in serious condition but they were declared as dead.
