JAMMU, Dec 2: Two persons were killed while at least ten others injured in two separate road accidents in Mandi (Poonch) and Kathua area of Jammu region today.
A police spokesman said that a mini-bus carrying some labourers from Loran Mandi to Poonch fell into a gorge near Mandi, resulting into the death of a labour and injuries to nine others. The mishap took place at around 9.30 am. The conductor was driving the vehicle (JK02Q/3814) and he lost control over it at a curve. The vehicle landed into a gorge. All the injured were rushed to Poonch hospital while one of them succumbed to injuries on the way.
The deceased was identified as Abdul Jabbar, son of Abdul Samad, resident of Raipur Mandi. Three seriously injured persons were provided preliminary treatment at District Hospital Poonch and then referred to GMC, hospital, Jammu. They were identified as Mohd Sadiq, Mohd Khursheed and Mohd Din, residents of Mandi area. Other six injured persons were undergoing treatment in Poonch hospital. The police has registered a case in this connection while the conductor of the vehicle was absconding.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has expressed grief over the loss of precious human life in Mandi area and conveyed his sympathy with the bereaved family and prayed for early recovery of the injured.
In yet another car accident on National Highway near Sakta Chak in Kathua last night one person was killed while another injured. The police said mishap took place at around 11.15 pm when an Alto Car No. JK08C/3001 was hit with the divider in the middle of the highway and turned turtle. Both the injured were rushed to Kathua hospital where one of them was referred to PGI Chandhigarh. He however, died on the way. The deceased was identified as Rafiq Ahmed, son of Mushtaq Ahmed of Janglote village. The injured has been identified as Mushtaq Ahmed, son of Ishtiaq Ahmed, resident of Ward No. 13 Kathua.
