2 killed, 33 hurt in bus mishap

RAJOURI, June 11: Two persons were killed while at least 33 others injured, some of them seriously, when an over loaded mini-bus over turned on the road near Mubarak Pura bridge, about 4 kms from here this morning.
The mishap took place at around 10.15 am when the mini-bus No. JK-11/3383, having capacity of just 16 passengers, was carrying at least 35 passengers from Parulian to Rajouri on this single road. Several passengers were sitting on roof top of the vehicle and also hanging with back stair and door.
As the vehicle reached near Dandwal at Mubarakpura bridge, due to over speeding it went out of control at the curve and turned turtle just close to the bridge. Some of the passengers sitting on roof top were thrown down into the nallah. The driver of the mini-bus, however, managed to escape from the spot.
Immediately after the accident, the people of the area rushed to the spot. They rescued the passengers and also informed Rajouri police. The police party led by SHO also reached the spot shortly. Majority of the passengers were shifted to hospital in private and police vehicles.
Seriously injured Mohd Sadiq, son of Sain, resident of Parulian village succumbed to injuries in district hospital Rajouri while another injured, Mohd Asgar, son of Noor Mohamed, resident of Dhara Sanwla, who was referred to GMC hospital Jammu from Rajouri, died near Sunderbani. His body was brought back to Rajouri hospital for postmortem and conducting legal formalities.
Senior officers from the district administration also visited the hospital and supervised the medical treatment being given to the accident victims. It was found by police that vehicle had not route permit and valid insurance and other papers. After registration of a case, police started search for the absconding driver.
The injured admitted to Rajouri hospital were identified as Farzan Begum, wife of Mohd Yousuf from Dhara Sanwla, Mohd Qayoom, son of Mohd Latief and Farooq Hussain, son of Mohd Ashraf both from Numbla, Shakeel Hussain, son of Mohd Rashid of Dharna Sanwla, Ibrahim, son of Mohd Nawasi of Dhara Sanwla, Shamim Akhtar, wife of Muneer Hussain of Parulian, Parvez Akhtar, wife of Talib Hussain of Parulian, Talib Hussain, son of Ibrahim of Dhara Sanwla, Mohd Hussain, son of Noor Mohd of Dhara Sanwla, Akhtar Hussain, son of Mohd Said from Parulian, Mushtaq Hussain, son of Wazir Hussain of Parulian, Mohd Zamal, son of Sher Mohd, resident of Parulian, Liaqat Hussain ( BSF jawan), son of Mohd Ashraf from Numbla, Mohd Azad, son of Mohd Sharief from Numbla, Muneer Hussain, son of Sain, resident of Numbla, Khursheed Hussain of Parulian, Mohd Sadiq, son of Mohd Hussain of Sanwla, Naseem Akhtar, daughter of Mohd Hanief of Parulian, Mohd Hanief, son of Hussain Mohd of Sanwla, Sobia, daughter of Muneer Hussain of Parulian, Qaramat Bi, wife of Mohd Bashir of Mankote, Rubina Kouser, daughter of Mohd Bashir of Mankote, Qusum, wife of Mohd Yousuf of Sanwla, Mohd Ismail, son of Faqir Mohd of Sanwla, Mohd Zaman, son of Mohd Aslam of Parulian, Guddo Begum, wife of Sayed Mohd of Numbla, Jan Bi, wife of Mohd Akbar of Chitti Bakri and Parveen Akhtar, wife of Mohd Qadeer from Dhara Sanwla.
Five injured persons were sent home after providing first aid at Rajouri hospital, police said. The BSF jawan Liaqat Hussain of Numbla village had come home on leave from his unit, located outside the State. His condition is said to be stable now, the police said.
