RAMBAN, Oct 30: Two persons died on the spot here and four others sustained critical injuries after the car they were onboard fell into a gorge near Magerkote on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway this morning.
Police sources informed that a car of Creta make bearing registration number PB36J-3100 was on its way to Kashmir from Jammu when it skidded off the road and landed in a deep gorge near Magerkote area of Ramsu Police Station jurisdiction.

Soon after the accident, rescue teams of police and local volunteers reached the spot and retrieved two bodies including that of a female and shifted the four injured persons to PHC, Ramsu from where they were shifted to Sub District Hospital Banihal and after getting medical aid from Banihal the injured were further referred to Associated Government Medical College and Hospital, Anantnag for specialized treatment.
Bodies of two deceased persons were kept in the mortuary of PHC Ukhral for identification.
Eyewitnesses informed that the accident took place just after crossing tunnel T5, Panthyal and between Magarkote viaduct.
They said that the mishap might be avoided if crash barriers were installed at 90 degree diversion out of tunnel T5 along Magarkote side.
Police said that the deceased persons were not identified as no identity card or anything else was available with them to establish their identity but efforts were being made to identify them.
The four injured persons were identified as Neha, 19, daughter of Shahji, resident of Madhya Pradesh; Megha, 18, daughter of Naveen, resident of Andhra Pradesh; Manisha, 19, daughter of Rabna, resident of Andhra Pradesh and Parat Singh, 29, son of Vishu, resident of Rajasthan.
SHO Police Station Ramsu, Inspector Devinder Singh informed that they have registered a case in this regard and started investigations.
