2 killed, 5 injured as speeding car hits passengers at Rly Stn

JAMMU, Aug 22: Two people including a 7-year-old girl were killed and 5 others injured today when a speeding car hit them at Railway Station Jammu after suffering brakes failure.

According to the eyewitnesses, the mishap occurred around 6 am today. They said a speeding car bearing registration number HR51AU-9707 after picking up some passengers from inside Railway Station Jammu swiftly moved towards in-gate of the Station instead of out-gate and hit four persons who were sitting on the stairs of an auto-stand, before crushing three pedestrians. The car finally stopped after it rammed into an auto-rikshaw bearing registration number JK02BB-8892.
They said in all 7 persons sustained injuries in the mishap and two of them are critical. The injured were identified as Anamika (7) daughter of Suraj Kumar, Lalita Devi (64) wife of Shantu Mandal, Urmila Devi wife of Bhupinder Mandal, Aditya Kumar (12) son of Suraj Kumar, all residents of Anandpur (Delhi) and Inspector Ravinder Yadav (Income Tax Department) son of Jugal Yadav of Haryana, Bhupinder Singh (40) son of Prabhat Singh of Naiter Kothey (Barnai, Jammu) and Devan Sahu (29) son of Naryan Sahu of Maharashtra.
As per the reports, all the injured persons were immediately rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu, where Anamika was declared as brought dead by the doctors while Lalita Devi succumbed to her injuries around 10:50 am. The condition of rest of the passengers injured in the mishap was stated to be stable.
The bodies of the deceased were sent for postmortem while a case in this connection was registered by Police Station GRP Jammu and further investigation started. The car involved in the mishap was also seized and its driver namely Subhash Chander son of Prem Nath, resident of Ram Nagar (Udhampur), was arrested.
