2 killed as car plunges into canal

JAMMU, Oct 4: Two persons were killed when their car plunged into a canal in Kunjwani area of city outskirts.
According to a police official, a speeding Santro Xing car (bearing registration number JKO2AC-5921), which was on its way from Kunjwani to Bishnah fell into the road side canal situated at Bandhurakh when the driver lost control over the steering.
He said the mishap occurred around 9:45 last night and after getting information, police along with locals started rescue operation. While one dead body was retrieved last night from the car, the body of the second occupant (of the car), who had washed away in the canal, was recovered this morning.
“The deceased persons were identified as Yash Paul Singh son of Pappu Kumar, resident of Lower Jallochak and Preet Arvind Singh son of Rajinder Singh, resident of Sector 8, Nanak Nagar,” the official said, adding, both the dead bodies were shifted to Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu for postmortem.
A case under relevant Section was registered in this connection at police station Gangyal and further investigation started, the official added.
