2 killed in Mendhar mishap

MENDHAR, May 20: Two persons were killed, thirteen others injured, two of them seriously, when an over loaded Tata Sumo vehicle fell down from a bridge near Dakki, about 1 km from here on Mendhar-Krishna Ghati-Poonch road this morning.
The mishap took place at around 10.30 am when eight seater- vehicle bearing registration No. JK-12/1978 was carrying, 15 passengers. It was on way to Uchhad from Mendhar. An accident victim revealed that driver was sitting behind and collecting money from passengers while another passenger, Imran Khan, known to driver was driving the vehicle. It was not so fast but the driver could not control the vehicle at a curve leading to the bridge and the vehicle fell down into the nallah.
Immediately after the mishap, the soldiers from nearby 37 RR Unit rushed to the spot. The locals of the area also ran towards the accident site. They started rescue operation and all the injured were shifted to Sub District Hospital Mendhar. Four seriously injured passengers were referred to GMC hospital Jammu by the local doctors after providing them preliminary treatment. But two of them died on the way.
While One Sakhi Mohd (55), son of Imam Din, resident of Simkan village in Mankote succumbed near Manjakote, 72-year-old contractor Abdul Hamid, son of Juma, resident of Sakhi Maidan died near Chingus, on way to Jammu. Their bodies were brought back to Mendhar hospital for postmortem. Two others shifted to GMC are Zeeshan (6), son of Imran, resident of Sakhi Maidan and Tasveer Bi, wife of Muneer Ahmed, resident of Chhajla in Mendhar.
Other 11 accidents victims admitted to SDH Mendhar are- Mohd Sharief from Kalaban, Mohd Ayoob from Sakhi Maidan, Karamat Hussain from Uchhad, Nazir Ahmed from Mankote, Mohd Azam from Sakhi Maidan, Mohd Aftab from Mankote, Ibrahim Ahmed from Chhajla, Mohd Rafiq from Chak Banola, Nasreen Bi from Bhati Dhar, Imran Khan from Chhajla and Zannat Bi from Simkan. The police has taken cognizance of the matter.
