Srinagar, Oct 18 : Police today arrested the main accused and his accomplice behind the overnight grenade blast in Harmain Shopian in which two migrant labourers were killed last night.
Additional Director General of Police Vijay Kumar said that the main attacker was arrested during the night and later his associate was also nabbed within hours of the incident.
“Further investigation is going on,” he told reporters at the incident site, adding, “the attacker was working for Lashkar commanders Danish and Abid.”
Kumar said non-locals remain a soft target as they don’t have security. “We will give befitting reply, hardcore militants behind the attack will be neutralized soon,” he added.

Earlier last night, two non-local labourers were killed in the grenade blast at their rented accommodation in Hermain area of Shopian district. The militants lobbed the grenade when these labourers were asleep.
Manish Kumar and Ram Sagar, both residents of Kannauj, Uttar Pradesh were critically injured in the grenade blast and were removed to the hospital where they succumbed.
A massive hunt was immediately launched by Police and security forces and the main attacker, Imran Bashir Ganie of Harmain Shopian, was arrested during the night. On his disclosure his accomplice was also arrested. Police said that both of them are “hybrid” militants of Lashkar-e-Toiba.
Meanwhile, Kumar said the investigation conducted revealed that the grenade at the accommodation of the labourers was thrown by one hybrid militant of LeT, identified as Imran Bashir Ganie of Hermain Shopian, who was promptly arrested by Police within hours of the attack.
“Apart from confessing about his involvement in the said gruesome terror crime, led police to arrest of his terrorist accomplice,” he said.
The ADGP said the actual grenade thrower militant and his accomplice have been arrested by police within hours of the incident, however, the main culprits who hatched the conspiracy for the attack and got it executed including Danish and district commander of LeT Abid shall be brought to justice very soon.
He further said that the investigation in the case is vigorously going on and based on the revelations made by the arrested militants and same being further corroborated by other evidences including human and technical intelligence, the hunt for other involved militants is on.
He said that on the disclosure of Gania several raids and search operations have been conducted and during one such operation although the contact with militants was established but they managed to flee from the spot. However, the efforts are on to nab them.
Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha while condemning the killing of the workers in Shopian, said that “words can’t adequately condemn the barbaric terror attack”.
He said that the security forces have been given “full freedom to crush the terror ecosystem.”
“Words cannot adequately condemn today’s barbaric terror attack on Manish Kumar and Ram Sagar from Kannauj, UP. My deepest condolence to their families. One terrorist has been arrested & hunt is on for the others. Security apparatus has been directed to launch coordinated CT ops,” LG Sinha said, in a tweet.
He said the district administration Shopian has deputed senior officers to make arrangements for transportation of the mortal remains of the slain to their respective villages with full honours.
“We have intensified our efforts to crush terrorists and terror ecosystem and have given full freedom to the security forces. Terrorism is a curse for the civilised society. People from every community must come together to condemn heinous acts and root out terror & its elements,” he said.
