2 LeT militants killed in Shopian encounter

SRINAGAR, Oct 10 : Two militants of Lashkar-e-Toiba including one involved in the killing of Kashmiri Pandit Sanjay Sharma in February this year were killed in an encounter in Shopian today.

A police spokesperson said that based on specific information regarding the presence of militants in Alshipora area of the south Kashmir district, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by Police, Army’s 44 RR and CRPF’s 178 Bn in the area.
During the search operation, he said, as the joint search party approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired indiscriminately upon them, which was retaliated, leading to an encounter.
In the ensuing encounter, he said, two militants of LeT were killed and their bodies retrieved from the site of encounter.
They have been identified as Marifat Maqbool son of Mohammad Mangloo of Cheigund Keegam, Shopian and Jazim Farooq alias Abrar son of Farooq Ahmad Wani of Heff Shirmal, Shopian.
As per the police records, he said, both the militants were categorized and involved in several cases including attacks.
“Jazim Farooq alias Abrar was involved in case FIR No. 14/2023 under section 302, 307 IPC, 7/27Arms Act, 16, 18, 20 UAP Act of Police Station Litter pertaining to the killing of Kashmiri Pandit Sanjay Sharma,” he said.

Justice has been done: Slain KP’s wife

JAMMU, Oct 10: Sunita Sharma, wife of ATM guard Sanjay Sharma who was gunned down by terrorists in February, today thanked security forces for eliminating the killer of her husband and said justice has been done with her.
Sanjay Sharma (40), a Kashmiri Pandit, was shot dead by terrorists in the Achan area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on February 26.
Expressing satisfaction, Sunita Sharma said that no innocent person should be killed the way her husband was gunned down in the Valley.
“I thank the security forces for eliminating the terrorist involved in the killing of my husband. My husband was innocent. I was waiting for the elimination of the terrorist who killed my husband. They gave me justice today,” Sunita Sharma said.
Sunita Sharma said that her trauma has ended today.
“We have got respite from this pain that my husband’s killer was alive. We still don’t know why my husband was killed. He was ill. I had been waiting for the past seven-eight months to hear the news of the killing of that terrorist,” she said.
Sunita Sharma said they (terrorists) snatched these minor children’s father from them. “I lost my husband, and also my house in Kashmir. Government gave me a job and compensation, but the pain of losing my husband will never end,” she said.
