SRINAGAR, Nov 1: Two militants were killed and a soldier was injured in a gunfight at Zugoo Arizal area of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district today while in North Kashmir’s Sopore area security forces arrested three Over Ground Workers (OGW’s) of Lashkar-e-Toiba.
Army’s 53 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operations Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF cordoned off Zugoo and Arizal area of Budgam district after inputs about the presence of some militants in the area.
Two militants were killed in the gunfight that lasted for few hours. The killed militants were identified as Mukhtar Ahmad Khan son of Abdul Ahad Khan, a resident of Brass Arizal Budgam and Mohd Amin Mir son of Ghulam Rasool Mir resident of Drangbal Pampore.
A police spokesman said that both the militants involved in a series of militant attacks on security establishments in the area. “Mukhtar was involved in case FIR No 37/2018 under Section 307 RPC, 7/27 Arms Act, 16/18 ULAP Act dated 25.03.2018 in Budgam, while Mohammad Amin was involved in case FIR No 75/2018 under Section 18/20/30 ULAP Act at PS Pampore,” the spokesman said.
In the encounter, one soldier was injured and evacuated to hospital for treatment. He is stated to be stable. Police have registered a case and investigation taken up.
Militants were buried and thousands of people attended their funeral at respective native villages at Pampore in Pulwama district and Arizal in Budgam.
Mobile Internet service was snapped in Budgam district soon after the gunfight broke out. An official said the service was suspended as a “precautionary measure” to prevent spreading of rumours.
Youth pelted stones on security forces in Namblabal area of Pampore following the killing of Mohammad Amin Mir. The protesters also blocked the Srinagar-Jammu highway.
The militant killings triggered violent protests in Zugoo near the site of the gunfight and Pampore area of Pulwama district as the news of local militant’s death reached there.
At least 10 persons were injured in clashes at Pampore and Arizal. A woman is said to have suffered injuries during clashes at Pampore.
And security forces today arrested three OGWs of LeT militant outfit from Sopore village in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
A joint naka was laid by Police Component Rafiabad near Chatlora crossing in Rafiabad. “During checking, one motorcycle having three pillion riders on it, tried to escape from the spot. The Naka party chased and overpowered the trio”, police said.
“During preliminary questioning, they revealed their identity as Akthar Rasool Lone son of Khaliq Lone, Tariq Ahmed Tantary son of Mohammad Yousuf and Irfan Ahmed Ashraf Dar son of Mohammad Ashraf, all residents of Reban, Rafiabad”, the spokesman said.
“A case FIR number 149/2018 under Section 7/25, 13 ULA Act was registered in Police Station Dangiwacha and further investigations were taken up,” police said.
Meanwhile, a militant was killed in a gun battle in North Kashmir’s Handwara area tonight.
The gun fight raged at Pohrupath, Handwara between militants and security forces tonight.
One militant was killed in the encounter while operation is on.
