SRINAGAR, June 18: Two militants were killed in an encounter at Panar forest area of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district today while a protester was killed and two others were injured as Army allegedly fired at them in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district this evening.
A fresh gunfight broke out between the militants and the joint team of Army’s 14 RR, 22 RR, 52 RR, 18 RR, 28 RR, 27 RR, 31 RR, 3 Para Commandos and Air Force Commandos in Panar forest area of Bandipora this morning.
A group of at least 11 militants are believed to be still hiding in the forest area. On June 14, two militants and a soldier were killed in the operation.
The operation was launched on June 9 when the militants and the security forces exchanged brief gunfight in Raynar forests adjacent to Panar area. The operation against the militant group continued for 10th day today.
Army also pressed Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) or drones into service to locate the militants.
And a youth was killed and two others were injured in alleged Army firing at Nowpora area of Mir Bazar in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district today.
A group of youth pelted stones on Army’s 9 RR party who allegedly resorted to firing in which three persons were injured. All the three injured were taken to Janglat Mandi hospital in neighboring Anantnag district.
One of the injured Aijaz Ahmad Dar was declared as brought dead at the hospital. Two more injured were referred to Srinagar hospital for specialized treatment.
Meanwhile, security forces today launched a cordon-and-search-operation in Samboora village of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
This is the first operation launched against militants following the calling off of the suspension of operations against militants in Kashmir.
Centre had announced unilater suspension of operations against militants during Ramadan.
Army’s 50 RR and SOG cordoned off Samboora area in Pulwama district following inputs about the presence of militants.
Soon after the security forces laid the cordon, a large numbers of youth took to streets and pelted stones. Police and paramilitary CRPF used tear smoke shells to disperse them.
A joint tea of Army’s 42 RR, CRPF and SOG launched a search operation at Bus Stand Tral today.
Security forces also launched cordon and search operation in Waghama village of Bijbehara following inputs about the presence of militants. However, the operation was later called off.
Security forces launched a massive operation against militants in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district today. SOG Kupwara, SOG Handwara and 47 RR launched the operation in Bubernag, Kupwara and Deedikote Vilgam area of Handwara against a group of militants.
