SRINAGAR : Two militants were killed in a fierce encounter, while the third one is still trapped inside a house in south Kashmir district of Shopian today. The encounter was still going on when the reports last came in.
Official sources said one militant is still trapped inside the house, while two other have been killed. They said a search party of 44 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) came under heavy fire from a house at Karewa Manloo, Shopian this afternoon.
Security forces immediately sealed the entire area from all sides to foil escape attempt by any militant. Reinforcement was also rushed to the area from nearby camps, they said, adding that firing between the militants holed up in a house and security forces was going on.
Sources said there could be more than one militant in the house.
Militants fired upon a poll party at Nagbal Shopian last evening, killing a poll official Zia and injuring another poll official, a CRPF jawan and a police constable, besides a driver. (AGENCIES)
