SRINAGAR, Aug 21: Two militants were trapped today in a village in Langate area of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district after security forces launched an operation against them this afternoon.

Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Ganapora village of Langate following inputs about the presence of two militants, who were hiding in a house.
As the troops conducted searches in the village, militants fired upon the troops from the house where they were hiding, leading a fierce encounter and two militants were trapped in the house. The encounter is on and security forces have blasted the house in which the militants were hiding.
Searches of the debris is being conducted and more troops were rushed to the village. Cordon has been strengthened to ensure that if the militants are alive, they don’t manage to flee.
Meanwhile, security forces have launched searches in Rakh Litter area of Pulwama district after villagers informed police about a man being shot dead in the village.
Security forces headed by SHO Pulwama reached the spot and are conducting searches of the area. The villagers informed police that a local BJP leader Shabir Ahmad Bhat of Pathan, Pulwama was shot dead by militants. Police have called Shabir on his cell number but no one is responding on that.
And a soldier was injured in sniping by Pakistan troops on the Line of Control (LoC) in Tanghdar sector of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district today.
Pakistani troops fired several shots at an Army post in Tanghdar early today leaving a soldier injured. He has been identified as Kaushal Singh of 20 JAT. He was immediately shifted to a hospital in critical condition. He was airlifted to Srinagar’s 92-Base Hospital in Badami Bagh Cantonment for treatment. The Army also retaliated but loss on the Pakistani side was not immediately known.
On August 13, a soldier, Sepoy Pushpendra Singh, of the same regiment of the army was killed in Pakistani sniping in Tanghdar sector. The next day Army killed two Pakistani troops in the sector.
The ceasefire violations from Pakistani troops along the LoC in North Kashmir is on increase for last one month. Army says that Pakistani troops are doing this to facilitate infiltration of militants into Kashmir. They said over 250 militants are waiting on the launch pads for infiltration into Kashmir. However, tight vigil on the LoC is making their designs difficult. However, 59 of them have managed to sneak in this year so far.
Meanwhile, militants this evening abducted former police man in Shopian district of South Kashmir.
Shakoor Ahmad Parray son of Sadiq Ahmad Parray of Kumdalan Shopian was abducted this evening by militants from his shop. A manhunt has been launched to trace him out.
Parray was in Police Department but he joined militancy in 2015 and was later apprehended and released by the police. He was running a shop in the area.
