2 Panchayats of Rajouri, 1 of Baramulla win prestigious national awards

JAMMU, Apr 23: J&K UT has bagged three national awards under separate categories for the outstanding contribution by its Pancha-yati Raj Institutions (PRIs) to socioeconomic development of the Gram Panc-hayat, adopting child-friendly practices and preparing Gram Panch-ayat Develop-ment Plans at the panchayat level.
The awa-rds were given under three different categories viz. Nanaji Deshmukh Rashtriya Gaurav Gram Sabha Puraskar (NDRGGSP), Gram Panchayat Development Plans (GPDP) Award, Child-friendly Gram Panchayat Award by the Union Ministry of Panchayati Raj, to recognize the efforts and work done by the best performing panchayats all over the country.
Panchayat Jamola Lower of district Rajouri has been awarded Child-friendly Gram Panchayat Award 2020 for adopting best practices in terms of ensuring vaccination of children, optimum enrolment, attendance of teachers in schools, reduction of drop-out rate in schools, open defecation free status, implementation of Mid-day Meal scheme and drinking water facilities.
Dhangri Panchayat of the same district has been awarded Nanaji Deshmukh Gaurav Gram Sabha Puraskar for outstanding performance in improving the soci-economic fabric of the panchayat. The award aims to strengthen the institution of Gram Sabhas and to highlight it as an institution of decision making.
Similarly, Panchayat Zaloora B of District Baramulla has been adjudged best performing GP for the Gram Panchayat Development Plans Awards for preparing the holistic and comprehensive development plan of the panchayat.
Appreciating the tireless efforts, dedication and good work carried out by the awardee Panchayats, the Secretary to Government, Sheetal Nanda, impressed upon other panchayats to take similar steps and adopt best practices in the panchayats for the welfare of the rural masses. The Secretary further said all the Sarpanches and Panchayat members should fully utilize their powers given to them by the Government for the betterment of their panchayats.
Lauding the efforts of Abdul Khabir, District Panchayat Officer, Rajouri and Yar Ali, District Panchayat Officer Baramulla for their active role in making this possible and congratulating Akis Nisar, Sarpanch, Panchayat Jamola Lower, Dheeraj Kumar, Sarpanch, Panchayat Dhangri and Ghulam Ahmed Lone Sarpanch, Zaloora B, for winning the awards, Sheetal Nanda said that in a short term of one year and four months only, Sarpanchs and Panchs of these panchayats have adopted the role of community leaders and have started working for the betterment of their people.
