2 pilgrims injured in landslides

JAMMU, Aug 8: Two pilgrims of Mata Vaishno Devi ji shrine were injured in landslides, triggered by heavy rains, near Bhairon Ghati this afternoon after which yatra to Bhairon Ghati was suspended.
Pilgrimage to Mata Vaishno Devi shrine was also suspended at 8 pm from Katra due to heavy rains but will be restored in the morning, SP Katra Pawan Parihar said.
The injured pilgrims have been identified as Vinay Kumar Upadhyaya, 38, son of Shailender Kumar, a resident of Partapgarh, Uttar Pradesh and his 36 years old wife Nisha Upadhyaya.
They were shifted to Katra and their condition was stated to be stable.
Staff of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board was engaged in clearing the landslides at Bhairon Ghati.
Meanwhile, alternate track from Adh Kunwari to Bhawan continued to remain open from 6 am to 6 pm only. The yatris were not being allowed on the track after 6 pm due to landslides.
A leopard has also been spotted on new track and Bhairon Ghati. The Wild Life Department is being approached to catch the leopard.
