2 smugglers nabbed with 92 kg Bukki, 1.7 kg Charas

RAJOURI, July 28: The police today arrested two smugglers and recovered 92 kg of poppy straw (Bukki) and 1.7 kgs of Charas from their possession in Nowshera area of Rajouri district.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Rajouri, Chandan Kohli said that a team of police headed by SDPO Nowshera, Zakir Shaheen Mirza alongwith SHO Nowshera, Amit Singh under the supervision of ASP Nowshera, GL Sharma was deployed on routine highway naka at Model Police check point at Thalka on Nowshera-Rajouri stretch of highway.
During checking, a Tata Mobile vehicle bearing registration No. JK12- 1664 was signalled to stop, with a driver and co-driver travelling in it.
” The vehicle was frisked and nothing untoward was found from it but both driver and co-driver were behaving suspiciously and were also changing answers of routine questioning by cops,” SSP said adding that such abrupt behaviour of duo created suspicion after which the vehicle was put to thorough frisking again.
“A well created hidden cabin (cavity) at the base of vehicle was unearthed by cops after hectic efforts and a huge consignment of 92 kilograms of poppy straw packed in 53 polythene bags and one bag containing 1 kilograms and 700 grams of Charas was recovered from the hidden box,” said SSP.
He added that vehicle was seized on the spot and both the smugglers have been arrested who include driver, Mumtaz Ali, son of Noor Alam and co-driver Mohammad Mukhtar, son of Mohammad Aziz, resident of Dalyote Barot village of Kalakote.
“A case in FIR No. 148/2020 under relevant sections of law of NDPS Act has been registered in Nowshera Police Station. Further investigation has been launched,” he added.
