JAMMU, July 29: Shri Ram Sena (SRS) today slammed National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) over establishing two toll plazas one at Lakhanpur and another at Thandi Khui in Samba district.
Shri Ram Sena J&K State President Rajiv Mahajan, in a statement issued here, said that the move will hit common man hard as he will have to shell out Rs 130 at Thandi Khui alone (in case of a car) while traveling on the Jammu-Pathankot route despite a new road cess of Rs 8 per litre has also been introduced by the Government.
Mahajan also criticized National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), for sharp hike in toll tax at Ban Toll Plaza between Jammu and Katra-Udhampur recently and demanded abolition of such a tax saying that general public is already frustrated paying Toll in spite of paying Road Tax, Income Tax, Service Tax, Sales Tax and many more taxes.
Mahajan alleged that for the last hardly two years, three times hike has been effected in toll tax at Ban which is highly unjustified and excess load on general public. He alleged that State Government, Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Chief Secretary and Governor’s Advisors were also least bothered over the issue.
“On one hand State Governor has announced to reduce the Toll Tax in Kashmir Division and also planning to abolish Toll Tax from the civilians but on the other hand Toll Tax in Jammu region from Toll Plaza Ban Jammu has been increased to Rs 200 just for cars/jeeps etc,” he lamented adding that SRS welcomes abolition of Toll Tax in Kashmir Division but the same should also be done here.
Mahajan criticized Government of India and Prime Minister for the discrimination with the people of Jammu region. He asked NHAI to review its decision of increase of Toll Tax otherwise SRS activist will launch large agitation against Government. “Kashmir toll tax for 65 km stretch is Rs 135 (both sides) whereas for 65 km long Udhampur-Jammu stretch, it is Rs 200, which is injustice with the people of Udhampur,” he said and demanded permanently removal of Ban Toll Plaza.
