2 tourists killed in mishap

LEH, June 15: Two tourists were killed and six others sustained severe injuries when two vehicles were hit by an avalanche at Khardong-la Pass.
The ill-fated vehicles were on way from Nubra to Leh when an avalanche hit them at Khardong-la causing severe injuries to the occupants of both the vehicles.
On getting information about the incident, Deputy Commissioner, T Angchok immediately deputed rescue teams to the area and after hectic efforts all the occupants of both the vehicles were rushed to SNH Hospital where two of them were pronounced as brought dead.
The deceased tourists have been identified as Mahajan Sudhakar and Jagdish Pradhan Mahadev, both the residents of Mumbai. The condition of injured tourists was stated to be out of danger when reports last came in.
Minister for Tourism and Culture, Nawang Rigzin Jora, Chief Executive Councilor (CEC) Rigzin Spalbar and Deputy Commissioner, Tsering Angchok visited the hospital to inquire about the condition of injured tourists. They instructed the doctors to ensure every possible treatment to the injured tourists.
Meanwhile, district administration has made arrangements for sending the bodies of the deceased to their home towns by air tomorrow morning.
