SRINAGAR, Feb 5: Two militants of The Resistance Front (TRF) were killed in a predawn gunfight in Zakura area of Srinagar district today.
Police said that based on a specific input generated by police regarding the presence of militants in Rangpora Zakura area of Srinagar, a cordon and search operation was launched by Srinagar Police in the area.
During the search operation, as the search party proceeded towards the suspected spot, the hiding militant fired indiscriminately upon the search party which was retaliated effectively leading to an encounter.
Two militants were killed and their bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter. They have been identified as Ikhlaq Ahmad Hajam son of Abdul Ahad Hajam, resident of Kujer Frisal Kulgam and Adil Nisar Dar son of Nisar Ahmad, resident of Malangpora Pulwama, both linked to LeT (TRF).
As per police records, Ikhlaq Ahmad was active since June-2021 and Adil Nisar was active since August-2021. Both the killed militants were involved in several militancy incidents including attack on police, security forces and civilians. Besides, they were also instrumental in motivating the gullible youth to join terror folds and reviving the OGW network.

Police said Ikhlaq was the mastermind behind the recent killing of HC Ali Mohammad at Hasanpora Anantnag on 29/1/22. He was also involved in an IED blast on Qoimoh-Yaripora road on 18/01/2022.
“Incriminating materials, arms and ammunition including 2 pistols and 5 hand grenades were recovered from the site of encounter. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation”, he added.
Police today busted a narco-militancy module by arresting two people along with contraband worth Rs 18 crore in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
Police said that today a police party of Police Station Uri and Police Post Kamalkote headed by SHO Police Station Uri were patrolling the area from Dachi towards Basgran. “During the patrolling, two vehicles- Celerio-X bearing registration No. JK09C-1584 and Alto bearing registration No. JK05G-0247 were found on a link road towards Dachi in a suspicious condition. Police patrolling party moved towards the vehicles, but the drivers of both the vehicles saw the police patrolling party and tried to flee away from the spot. However, due to the timely action of police party, both the persons were apprehended tactfully,” police said.
A police spokesman said both the vehicles were searched during which three packets of contraband apparently heroin was recovered from Celerio vehicle and five packets of contraband apparently heroin was recovered from Alto vehicle. In total 8 packets of contraband weighing approximately about 9 Kgs was recovered. The cost of the contraband in black market is above Rs 18 crores.
“Both the persons were questioned on the spot. During questioning the driver of the Alto car revealed his name as Mohammad Sabir Barwal son of Faqeer Ali resident of Jabda Kamalkote Tehsil Uri and driver of the Celerio car revealed his name as Parvaiz Ahmad Tantray son of Ghulam Nabi Tantray resident of Reban Rafiabad Sopore,” the spokesman added.
“During their personal search mobile phones, one cheque to the tune of Rs five lakhs and one Adhaar Card was recovered from the possession of Mohammad Sabir Barwal,” he said.
“Seven cheques amounting to Rs 9,79,500 two blank cheques, one cheque book containing 22 leaves, one Adhaar card, one cell phone, pan card, e-sharam card, 2 ATM cards, 1 Kisan Card, 1 Debit Card and other documents were recovered from the possession of Parvaiz Ahmad Tantary. In this regard case FIR No.17/2022 U/S 8/21-29 NDPS Act has been registered and investigation taken up,” read the statement.
