2 trucks illegally carrying 366 bags of rice seized, 2 held

SRINAGAR, Jun 1: Police today seized two trucks carrying 366 bags that were being illegally ferried to Srinagar for black marketing.
Acting on specific information, a Police party from Police Station Pattan under the supervision of SDPO Pattan Zaffar Mehdi and SHO Pattan, Nisar Ahmad at a checkpoint established on NHW near Hanjiwera Pattan intercepted two vehicles bearing registration numbers JK02V-6397 & JK09-3233.
“The drivers of these vehicles have been identified as Mohammad Jamal Hajam, son of Abdul Gaffar Hajam, resident of Madmadow Kalaroos, Kupwara and Jahangir Ahmad Bhat, son of Abdul Aziz Bhat, resident of Bumhama, Kupwara, police said.
During the search of both the vehicles, 366 bags of FCI rice were recovered.
“As per the documents/ Challan produced by the drivers against the loaded substance, the rice has been loaded from FCI Godown Kralhar and was meant to be transported to Kulangam Kupwara,” police said,
Instead of taking the rice to Kupwara, police said, they were on their way to Srinagar for black marketing of said rice.
“They have been arrested and shifted to Police Station Pattan. Vehicles used in the commission of crime have also been seized,” police said. Accordingly, a case US 152/2021 has been registered and investigation in the matter has been initiated.
SDPO told Excelsior that they have got the details from the arrested persons and accordingly teams have been formed to nab their masterminds. “We will bring to the fore the chain of the black marketers and they will be brought to book,” he said.
