SAMBA, July 27: Due to the incessant rains on Wednesday, a flood-like situation arose in the Bei river at Ghagwal in the district, due to which two trucks plying along the river bank got trapped in and were washed away up to a distance of a few meters. However their drivers were rescued later by hard efforts.
Truck drivers said that their vehicles come and go through this route almost every day, but due to sudden heavy rain in the night, we got stuck in the flood. Both the trucks belonged to a private company engaged in road construction being done by the National Highways Authority of India.
The incident took place on Wednesday night around 12 o’clock when both these trucks were carrying liquid cement to the mixer plant on the bank of river Bei but suddenly the water level of the river rose and both these trucks got suddenly trapped, despite the best efforts from the drivers, they failed to pull out the trucks and finally both of them also got stuck in the flood.
As the water level of the river rose and water started flowing over the truck, somehow the drivers climbed up and called the company people for help. Somehow the people of the company reached on the spot within half an hour and were horrified to see the situation. Then they tried to pull them out with the help of JCB but failed and some people climbed on the Railway bridge and with their hard efforts for two and a half hours, the truck drivers were rescued.
