2 WD to hit J&K from this evening, heavy rain-snow predicted till April 4

SRINAGAR :  Two fresh Western Disturbances (WD) are likely to hit Jammu and Kashmir and adjoining areas from this evening, which could result in rain or snow till April 4, with occasional gaps.
Director, Meteorological Department Kashmir Sonam Lotus said that two WD, originating in Arabian sea, could enter the region through Afghanistan and Pakistan this evening.    These WDs are likely to affect Jammu and Kashmir and adjoining areas from this evening till April 4, he warned.    He said under the influence of these weather systems, moderate to heavy rain or snow, particularly on hilly areas, will occur at most places in the valley and Jammu region and at a few places in Ladakh region as well.    However, the isolated places in Jammu and Kashmir region may receive heavy rain or snow mainly on March 29 and April  3.
The warning said accordingly, farmers are also advised to avoid spraying of orchards and drain out excess water from their fields during these days.
Mr Lotus said these weather conditions have the potential to trigger landslide and flashflood in vulnerable areas of the state like Srinagar-Jammu Highway.    It may disrupt surface and air transport during above  periods.
During this period, there will be significant decrease in day temperatures and slight rise in night tempertures, he  added.
