Over 10, 000 samples pending at SKIMS

51 including 21 cops test +ve in Kashmir

Srinagar, May 21: Two COVID-19 positive women died in Srinagar today taking Corona death toll in Jammu and Kashmir to 20 while 51 persons including 21 police men posted in Kulgam district tested positive for Coronavirus taking J&K cases to 1449.
Two woman including a 70 -year- old from Parisabad Budgam and a 80- year- old from Bemina Srinagar, died today in Srinagar taking the death toll in J&K to 20 including 18 from Kashmir and two from Jammu.
Nodal Officer for COVID-19 at GMC Srinagar, Dr Salim Khan said that the woman from Parisabad, Budgam who was initially admitted in SMHS Hospital on 15th May, tested positive for COVID-19.
“She was shifted to CD Hospital Srinagar on May 18 and passed away today. She was admitted as a case of COPD with restrictive lung disease and COVID pneumonia”, he said.
He added that 80-year-old woman from Usmania Colony Bemina Srinagar who died at SMHS yesterday tested positive for COVID-19 today. “She was admitted with bilateral pneumonia and hypertension on May 19 and was kept in isolation ward where she died yesterday. Her body was kept in GMC Srinagar mortuary and was later handed over for last rites to the administration”, he said.
And 51 people tested positive in Kashmir today including 21 cops, a medical intern and two pregnant women taking Corona positive tally in Jammu and Kashmir to 1449.
Among new cases detected in Kashmir, 14 were tested positive at SKIMS, 33 at CD hospital and four at JVC Bemina. With today’s new cases, the total number of positive cases in Kashmir division has reached to 1238 including 615 recoveries and 18 deaths.
There are 754 active cases in Jammu and Kashmir which includes 605 from Kashmir. Of them, 12 are from Anantnag, 21 from Kulgam, five from Srinagar, four from Budgam, seven from Kupwara two from Ganderbal.
Dr Salim Khan told Excelsior that out of over 701 samples processed at CD hospital today, 33 tested positive. They include 21 cops posted in Kulgam, 10 persons from Anantnag including two pregnant women, a medical intern from Psychiatry section of SMHS, who was staying at GMC Srinagar Hostel campus Bemina and one from Kulgam.
The 21 cops who tested positive are posted at Reserve camp in Higher Secondary School Chawalgam in district Kulgam and were on COVID-19 duty. They are posted at HSS Chawalgam from last 3 months and are under command of DPL Kulgam.
The police men aged 41, 38, 59, 24, 25, 30, 42, 27, 25, 25, 25, 58, 22, 22, 35, 28, 29, 37, 32, 37 and 34 are from Bugam, Shanpora, Bemina Srinagar, Gundipora, Shurat, Behibagh, Chawalgam, Brinal, Chaglpora, Frisal Yaripora, Malinoor Budgam, Charar-e-Sharief Budgam, Devsar, Sogat Devsar, Banhal, Malwan, Khudwani, Hajan Bandipora, Chatabal Kulgam and Brazloo Kulgam respectively.
Eleven persons who tested positive at GMC Srinagar from Anantnag include 25 year old woman from village Satimadaan, 27 year old woman from Kundroo, 3-men aged 49, 64, 45 and two women aged 42 and 44 respectively from village Urjan, two boys aged 16 and 17 and 43-year old woman from Lalipora Anantnag and a 25-year old woman from Frislan, Anantnag.
A medical intern, doctor, from Psychiatry section of SMHS, who was staying at GMC Srinagar Hostel campus Bemina also tested positive.
The Medical Superintendent SKIMS told Excelsior that out of 1900 samples processed at SKIMS Path Lab today, 14 tested positive. He added that 10, 220 samples are yet to be tested at SKIMS.
Those tested positive at SKIMS Srinagar include two persons from Srinagar including a 26-year-old man from Maisuma, 21-year-old man from Housing Colony Bemina in Srinagar. Two men tested positive from Ganderbal district including 22 year old and 37 year old from Safapora and Ganderbal.
Three people including a man and two women from Chatabal in district Kulgam tested positive. The women are aged 20 and 50 years and man 60 year old.
Seven people from Kaweri, Reshigund and Kupwara town, all travelers with history of travel to Delhi, Ambala, Dehradun and UP tested positive at SKIMS. They include three men and one woman aged 39, 39, 35 and 27 years respectively from village Kaweri in district Kupwara. A 52 year man from Reshipora village in district Kupwara and two men aged 23 and 41 years from Kupwara town tested positive.
Principal SKIMS Medical College Srinagar, Dr Riyaz Untoo told Excelsior that 400 samples from Budgam were processed at SKIMS Bemina testing lab and four tested positive. They include 3 men including two aged 23 years from Soibug village and one 20-year old man from Naru village besides a woman from Loolipora village of Budgam. He said another operation was performed on a COVID-19 positive pregnant woman from Anantnag at the SKIMS hospital. “Both mother and child are fine,” he added.
