POONCH, Sept 26: Two women were drowned in river Poonch river while another rescued near village Khanetar, about 8 kms from here this afternoon.
The deceased were identified as Fiza Kouser, wife of Mohd Akram and Zahida Kouser, daughter of Mohd Sadiq, both residents of Noona Bandi. The third one rescued by the villagers and struggling for life in Poonch hospital was identified as Sazia Akhtar, wife of Ajaz Ahmed, resident of Noona Bandi.
A police spokesman said that these women had gone to the river for washing clothes. One of them went for bathing in the river and started drowning in deep water. The other two ran for her safety and one of them also drowned. The third one slipped into deep water while saving others.
One person noticed it from a long distance and ran for their safety. He managed to save one of them while other two were drowned.
Some more people rushed there and they also called police. Then the two dead bodies were fished out and removed to District Hospital, Poonch. Third one was still unconscious and in deep shock, but was responding to the treatment in hospital, the police spokesman said.
