2 young housewives commit suicide

KATHUA, July 15: Two young house wives committed suicides at two different places in Kathua district today.
According to police Ritika Kumari, 38, a Plus Two Lecturer, W/O Anil Kumar an Agriculture Extension Officer committed suicide by hanging herself to ceiling fan at her residence today when she and her mother in-law was only present in the house.
Police said Ritika’s husband and brother-in-law were at PGI Chandigarh to treat their ailing father who has been undergoing treatment there.
After seeing Ritika hanging with a ceiling fan her mother-in-law raised an alarm and the people gathered. She was shifted to Sub District Hospital Hiranagar where doctors declared her as brought dead.
Her body has been kept at mortuary in Hiranagar Hospital as her parents and other relatives protested alleging that her in-laws were responsible for the death. The Hiranagar Police has registered a case under relevant sections of the law and started investigation. Police said it has also arrested two persons in this regard but did not reveal their identification.
The parents have demanded that Ritika’s in-laws be arrested immediately.
In another incident a young house wife of 25 years of age committed suicide by hanging herself with a tree behind her residence in village Mandli in Billawar tehsil of Kathua district today.
She has been identified as Shalo Devi, W/o Ravi Kumar. She was a house wife and the cause behind her extreme step was not known. The Ramkot Police rushed to the spot and shifted her to Billawar Hospital where doctors declared her as brought dead. The body was handed over to family after postmortem for last rites. Ramkot Police has registered a case in this regard under relevant sections of the law.
