2-yr imprisonment in cheque bounce case

Srinagar, Oct 9: A local court here has awarded 2 years imprisonment to accused involved in providing cheques with insufficient amount in his account.
Hearing a complaint filed by one Parvaiz Ahmad Phafoo dealing with gold jewellery against the accused Showkat Ahmad Zargar of Bijbehara, Anantnag, the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Srinagar after satisfied that the complainant has proved the case against the accused, awarded 2 years of sentence to him.
Court said the accused has committed the offence under Section 138 of Negotiable Instrument Act and convicted him for the commission of the offence with imprisonment of a term of 2 years. “Further he is imposed with compensation to the tune of cheques amount in the complaint towards the complainant”, court directed.
Accused after announcing the quantum of sentence has been handed over to prosecution wing in open court and has been directed to be handed over to Superintendent Central Jail Srinagar.
