JAMMU/SRINAGAR/LEH, Dec 24: The Government of India has asked the J&K administration to keep strict surveillance on 20 persons who have returned to the Union Territory from United Kingdom recently.
The Centre has submitted list of 20 returnees to the J&K administration. Majority of them hailed from Jammu region.
GMC Jammu Principal Dr Shashi S Sudhan told the Excelsior that samples of all 20 persons will be sent to New Delhi for testing Sequencer which is not being done in Jammu so far. They will also be tested for COVID.
Meanwhile, seven persons died of COVID-19 in the Union Territory of J&K including four in Jammu division and three in Kashmir while 291 persons tested positive for the virus and 299 others recovered.
Of four casualties in Jammu region, three were reported in Jammu district and one in Samba.
A 55-year-old man from Chatha, 73-year-old from Janipura and 92-year-old from Gole Gujral, all of whom were co-morbid, died of COVID-19 in Jammu district.
A 65-year-old woman from Ward No. 10 Budhwani in Samba district succumbed to the virus.
With four casualties today, Jammu region’s Corona toll has reached 686 including 350 in Jammu district followed by 61 Doda, 57 Udhampur, 54 Rajouri, 48 Kathua, 38 Samba, 22 Poonch, 21 each Kishtwar and Ramban and 14 in Reasi district.
Those who died of COVID in Kashmir include an 80-year-old woman from Nambal in district Anantnag, an 85-year-old man from Tengpora area of Srinagar and 70-year-old man from Beerwah in district Budgam. They were admitted in hospitals and succumbed today.
Jammu region today reported 144 Corona positive cases, 94 alone in Jammu district, nine Udhampur, eight each Rajouri, Samba and Kathua, six Ramban, four Reasi, three each Doda and Kishtwar and one in Poonch district.
Among 160 persons who recovered from the virus in Jammu, 100 hailed from Jammu district, 23 Kishtwar, 13 Udhampur and 12 each Rajouri and Kathua. Rest of the districts didn’t report any recoveries.
Jammu region now has 49147 Corona cases including 1779 active positives while 46682 have recovered from the virus and there have been 686 casualties.
One Corona casualty and 32 new cases were reported in the Union Territory of Ladakh today.
All 32 posuitive cases were reported in Leh taking total Corona count to 9341 including 246 active while 8969 have recovered from the virus.
There have been 126 Corona casualties in Ladakh including 83 in Leh and 43 in Kargil district.
Meanwhile, Srinagar district with 444 deaths topped the Corona list in Kashmir followed by Baramulla 170, Budgam 107, Kupwara 90, Pulwama 88, Anantnag 83, Bandipora 59, Kulgam 53, Ganderbal 43 and Shopian 37.
And in Kashmir valley 147 positive cases were reported today.
Those who tested positive today include 66 from Srinagar, 7 Baramulla, 22 Budgam, 12 Kupwara, 18 Pulwama, 3 Anantnag, 3 Bandipora, 4 Ganderbal, 4 Kulgam and 8 from Shopian.
With fresh cases, the number of positive cases in Kashmir division have reached 70,197 including 67,262 recoveries and 1,174 deaths.
The active cases in Jammu and Kashmir are 3,540 including 1,761 from Kashmir division.
