SRINAGAR, Jan 4:  Around 20 women were among 140 candidates in the latest batch of aspiring entrepreneurs trained at the Jammu and Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI), an indication of rising pace of starting new businesses among women in the state.
Though, the number of women is still less as compared to the men who turn up for entrepreneurship training at the institute.
“This is indeed a welcome trend which has made us to think that we should attract more women aspiring entrepreneurs and train them for the entrepreneurship programmes,” Zamir Ahmed Qadri, Chief Program Officer at EDI, said at the concluding session of the 15-day training program.
The 3 weeks EDP was aimed at providing lessons on skill development, performance improvement as well as business cum sector specific trainings, leadership and self-development training to the aspiring entrepreneurs.
Most of the candidates have registered for the Seed Capital Fund Scheme (SCFS) – a key component of the State Government’s Sher-e-Kashmir Employment and Welfare Programme for Youth (SKEWPY).
JKEDI provides soft loans up to Rs 8 lakh at simple interest of just 6 per cent to aspiring entrepreneurs under YSLS.
