SRINAGAR, July 25: Police today seized a truck carrying 200 bags of Government rice meant for black marketing and arrested two persons in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
A police spokesperson said acting on a specific information, a police team from Dhamhaal Hanjipora police station established a checkpoint near a local bank last evening. “During the course of vehicular checking, a truck bearing registration number JK05-7633 on way towards to DH Pora from Srinagar was intercepted,” he added.
He said that during the process of checking, approximately 200 bags of Government rice was found inside the vehicle. On questioning, he said, the driver identified himself as Mohd Shafi son of Bashir Ahmed Sheikh of Nandwan Uri, “but he was unable to give a satisfactory answer regarding the authenticity of the rice.”
During questioning, he said, the driver revealed that Shahid Ahmed Bangroo son of Abdul Hameed Bangroo of Mirjanpora, Eidgah Srinagar has procured the rice from various Government stores in Srinagar and changed the packaging. “He changed the packaging of rice to 777-Pure Ratna Rice in connivance with some CAPD employees. He was trying to supply it in district Kulgam against hefty amounts,” he said, adding that the accused Shahid Ahmed Bangroo has also been arrested and many more arrests are expected.
Accordingly, a case FIR number 67/2019 U/S 420, 409, 120B, 3/7 EC Act was registered in police station Dhamhaal Hanjipora and investigation was set into motion, he said.
