UDHAMPUR, Apr 23: Continuing its offensive to contain the spread of narcotic drugs & psychotropic substances, Udhampur Police today seized 203 kg of contraband substance (poppy straw) and 15 grms of Heroin (Chitta) from narcotic smugglers at Chenani and Udhampur town.
Four accused involved in these two incidents of narcotic smuggling were arrested by the Police, which also seized the vehicles used by the smugglers.
Giving details, SSP Udhampur Rajiv Pandey said that based on some reliable information regarding smuggling of poppy straw, a police party of P S Chenani, led by SHO Insp Paramjeet Singh, under the supervision of Santokh Raj Deol, SDPO Chenani and Rajinder Kumar Katoch, Addl SP Udhampur, laid a naka at Motorshed, NHW and signaled one Mahindra Bolero (PB08 DS-2877) to stop for checking. Instead of stopping, driver of the Bolero broke the barriers and attempted to flee along with the vehicle from the spot. The vehicle was chased by the police party and intercepted at Champari.
During thorough search, 203 kg of poppy straw was recovered from the vehicle. Accused driver of the vehicle, namely Jagdev Singh son of Kuldeep Singh of Bhundri, Ludhiana, alongwith his associate Balkar Singh son of Kashmir Singh of Sangowal, Jalandhar were arrested on the spot.
Meanwhile, in another case, a Police party of PS Udhampur, led by SHO Insp Vijay Singh Choudhary, under the supervision of Dr Rohit Chadgal DySP Hqrs, laid a naka near Forest office Main Bazar, Udhampur and intercepted one car bearing registration number HR26 AN- 7715.
During search , 15 gms of Heroin (Chitta) was recovered from the persons travelling in the car. Police seized the drugs and arrested both the narcotic smugglers, identified as Niklesh son of Anand Kumar of Bus Stand, Udhampur and Vikas Thakur son of Joginder Singh of Omara Morh, Udhampur. However, another associate of the duo managed to flee by taking the advantage of traffic on road. The involved vehicle was also seized.
With these consignments, Udhampur Police, led by SSP Rajiv Pandey has succeded in the recovery of 793.6 kgs of Poppy straw and 372.3 grms of Heroin (Chitta) during the year 2019.
