596 applicants registered, 436 recognised ‘Start-Ups’

JAMMU, Mar 22: Over 21702 Kanals of the land has been transferred to the Industries and Commerce Department for the establishment of new industrial estates in Jammu and Kashmir and further indents have placed for transferring an additional over 14, 661 Kanals of the land for a similar purpose.
Surinder Choudhary, the Minister Incharge Industries and Commerce Department, shared this information in the Legislative Assembly today in response to a starred question of National Conference legislator Ali Mohammad Dar regarding the Government’s plans to earmark new land banks for the establishment of the industrial estates and the purpose of identified land banks.
“A total of 21,702 Kanals and 14 Marlas of the land, with 14,956 Kanals and 15 Marlas in Jammu division and 6,745 Kanals and 19 Marlas in Kashmir division, has been transferred to the Industries and Commerce Department for the establishment of the new industrial estates in the region.
“Further, the indents have been placed for an additional transfer of 14661 Kanals and 18 Marlas of the land in the UT, with 9661.05 Kanals in Jammu division and 5000 Kanals and 13 Marlas in Kashmir division,” the minister said.
Replying another question about whether education was specified as one of the eligible sectors for availing Government incentives under the J&K Industrial Policy 2021-30 and the reasons for not considering the establishment of private educational institutions for Government incentives under the policy, the Minister replied that among others, Education and Skill Development figures in the focus sector list of J&K Industrial Policy 2021-30.
“In addition to this, the Education and Skill Development is also part of service sector positive list of New Central Sector Scheme (NCSS) 2021, issued by Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India,” Choudhary said.
Regarding the steps being taken to extend the benefits of the J&K Industrial Policy to the highly educated youth ambitious of establishing educational and skill development unit, he said, under the Jammu and Kashmir Start-Up policy, 596 applicants have been registered, out of which 436 applicants have been recognized as “Start-Ups”.
“26 of these applicants are in Skill Development and Education Sector,” he said.
Besides, the Minister said an industrial estate at Meen Charkan, Bari Brahamana, Jammu established over 1457 Kanals and 4 Marlas of the land has been designated as Education and Skill Development specific estate and two industrial estates at Deeli in Jammu, established over 153 Kanals of the land, and at Miran Sahib, RS Pura area, established over 100 Kanals of the land, have been designated as Health and Medical Education specific industrial estates.
In the Kashmir division, the Industries and Commerce Department Minister, Surinder Choudhary, said that an industrial estate set up over 268.16 Kanals of the land at Sempora, Medicity, Pampore, Srinagar, and another set up over 200 Kanals of the land at Medicity Lelhar, Pulwama, have been designated as Health and Medical Education specific industrial estates.
Similarly, two industrial estates set up over 600 Kanals and 100 Kanals of the land at Khonmoh, Phase-IV Pantha Chowk, Srinagar, and Government Joinery Mills, Pampore have been declared as Technical Education and Information Technology and Information Technology Enabled Service specific industrial estates, he said.
Another industrial estate set up over 750 Kanals of the land at Rakh Gund Aksha, Bemina, Srinagar, has been declared as Health and Medical Education (Medicity) & Technical Education and Information Technology and Information Technology Enabled Service (IT/ITeS) specific industrial estates, added the Minister.
