SRINAGAR, May 26: As many as 23 road connectivity schemes by utilizing Rs. 103.85 crore with an aggregate length of 157.54 km providing road connectivity to 16 habitations stands completed up to March, 2014 under Prime Minister’s Gram Sadak Yojna (PMGSY) in the Kargil district.
This was revealed at a meeting of officers convened to review the progress of works taken up in Kargil district especially in Zanaskar Sub Division under PMGSY here today.
The meeting was chaired by Minister of State for School Education, Science and Information Technology Feroz Ahmad Khan.
The Minister, noting that there is limited working season in the region asked the concerned authorities of Prime Minister’s Gram Sadak Yojna (PMGSY) to accelerate the pace of work on construction of roads so that connectivity schemes launched in the area get timely completed for the benefit of the people.
Mr. Feroz said that the completion of the road projects taken up in hand would provide easy accessibility to the people of the area besides promote trade and business activities in the area. He also asked the concerned for taking up projects of public importance on priority in the area.
The Minister directed for early taking up and completing the work on Damsane to Achambore stretch on Sankoo-Panikhar road owing to very limited working season and the people having no alternative road communication in the area.
The meeting was further informed that the Detailed Project Reports of 22 schemes amounting to Rs. 270. 25 crore for construction of 206.69 km road length in Kargil district has been submitted to National Rural Roads Development Agency (NRRDA) for approval and funding.
Among others, Councillor LAHDC Kargil, Taisuru Syed Abbas Rizvi, nominated Councillor of Zanaskar Mr. Tashi Punchuk, Chief Engineer PMGSY Kashmir Vimal Tickoo, Executive Engineers, besides other officers of PMGSY attended the meeting.
