SRINAGAR, Feb 5: In a noteworthy achievement, the 220/33kV Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) Station at Haripora, Harwan, powered by a 220 kV line from Alusteng to new Wanpoh with LILO at Harwan, has been successfully charged for trial operation.
The GIS installation comprises four single-phase transformers, each with a capacity of 53.33 MVA (including one spare unit), forming a 160 MVA bank, six 220 kV bays, 11 33 kV bays (including six outgoing feeders), and the SAS operated GIS.
Sources said that the GIS Harwan charging was achieved in the presence of senior officials from JKPTCL and POWERGRID, including Abay Kumar, CGM (AM) POWERGRID NR2, Raheela Wani, Chief Engineer JKPTCL Kashmir, and Shafat Ahmed, Senior GM POWERGRID Kashmir & Ladakh.
The project, with a total cost of Rs 64 crores (inclusive of GST), aimed at serving areas such as Harwan, Tailbal, Batpora, Burzahama, and Zakura, they said.
Sources further said that the trial operation also encompassed the successful charging of key elements including 220kV GIS Bus 1 and Bus 2, ICT Bank (3×53.33 MVA), and 33kV GIS.
“This achievement is expected to play a pivotal role in strengthening Kashmir’s transmission system, relieving the overloaded Chashmashahi and Pampore grid stations. The new GIS station at Haripora Harwan is poised to improve the overall reliability of the transmission system, heralding a new era for power distribution in the region,” said sources.
Pertinently, in order to cater to a projected peak demand of 3095 MW at the end of plan period 2017- 22 and for evacuation of power from upcoming generation projects proposed to be commissioned during this plan period, the existing transmission infrastructure was to be upgraded by way of adding adequate transformation capacities at 220kV and 132 kV levels and constructing new EHV transmission lines and associated sub stations.
Accordingly, a transmission plan was prepared and construction of Five EHV sub stations proposed.
Under this scheme, five substations at Samba, Kathua, Chowadi in Jammu Province and two sub stations at Khanyaar and Haripaora in Kashmir Province were entrusted to POWERGRID for improving the existing transmission infrastructure and cater to the projected peak demand of over 3000 MW.
While all other substations were completed earlier, 220/33kV GIS HARIPORA faced bottle necks on account of RoW issues and non-availability of downstream connectivity.
Overcoming these bottlenecks, this EHV substation was test-charged today bringing much wanted relief to the people.
POWERGRID has been constantly contributing in improving the Power infrastructure of J&K, and this is the second major power infrastructure building by POWERGRID after successful charging of Ramban-Khilani Transmission line within a week’s time.
