UDHAMPUR, Nov 28: In a major success, Chenani Police today foiled an attempt of narcotics smuggling by recovering 220 kgs of poppy straw from a truck at Motorshed, National Highway, Chenani.
The truck, bearing registration number JK14G-1818 was on way from Kashmir to Udhampur when it was intercepted by a Police team, led by SHO Chenani, Inspector Sureshwar Dev Singh.
During checking, a specially fabricated chamber was detected in the toolbox of the truck, in which 09 bags filled with 222.45 kgs poppy straw like substance was recovered.
On preliminary inquiry, the driver disclosed his identity as Mohd Baber, son of Abdul Rashid of Champa, Tehsil Batote, District Ramban.
Police arrested the driver and seized the recovered poppy straw as well as the vehicle.
In this connection, a case FIR number 167/2023, Under Section 8/15 NDPS Act has been registered in P/S Chenani and investigation of the case has been taken up.
