22nd meeting of Academic Council of SMVDU held

JAMMU, Oct 10: Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) has initiated a number of innovative and progressive measures to improve and enrich the academic programmes being offered by the university.
This was disclosed in the 22nd meeting of the Academic Council of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), held in the university campus on under the chairmanship of the Vice Chancellor Prof Sudhir K Jain.
As disclosed by Prof Sudhir K Jain, notable academic decisions which have been implemented in the university include modifications in the Academic System Rules and Regulations, re-structuring of the Council of Students Affairs, introduction of Professional Development Assistance (PDA) for faculty members, conferences in different parts of the world with financial assistance from university to the tune of Rs 1.5 lakh for a block period of three years for each faculty member. In addition to these, since its ratification in Executive Council, the university has started Post Doctoral Fellowship which is being offered in very few universities of the country.
In the 22nd Academic Council, the members deliberated over significant issues related to expansion of the university particularly ten years Academic perspective plan upto the year 2025, admission of NRI/ Foreign seats to various degree programmes of university, granting assistantship to Research scholars in each school; establishment of UGC Human Resource Development Centre, Nano-Technology Cell and Technology Business Incubation Centre in the university.
Academicians from different areas of discipline attended the meeting as External members. All Deans, Directors, Librarian attended the meeting as Ex-officio members and Ajay Khajuria, Registrar of the university is Secretary of Council.
The External members who attended the meeting were Prof Sunil Kale HoD, Mechanical Engineering Department, IIT Delhi, Prof Ratnamala Chatterjee, Department of Physics, IIT Delhi, Prof Manoj K Panda, Director, Institute of Economic Growth, University of Delhi, Prof Suneet Tuli, Dean, R&D, Center for Advance Research in Electronics, IIT Delhi, Prof Rakesh Mohan Joshi, Chairperson International Collaborations Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, New Delhi.
