First Omicron case in Ladakh

Leh, Dec 22: Twenty-four pregnant women today tested positive for COVID-19 at Srinagar’s main Lalla Ded Maternity Hos-pital, while several doctors at the facility have been reported infected during the last few days.
An official said that 24 pregnant women who reported to the hospital’s OPD for normal check-ups tested positive and among them one has been admitted. He said that they conducted a Rapid COVID-19 test for all the patients who report at the hospital and today 24 tested positive.
He said that several doctors have also tested positive at the hospital for the last few days and now the hospital has taken strict measures to prevent the spread of the virus among the staff.
Authorities today closed Government Degree College Sopore for two days after three of its faculty members tested positive for COVID-19.
The college has been closed as a precautionary measure for December 23 and 24. An official said that all the primary and secondary contacts of the affected employees have been advised to self-isolate and get tested for COVID-19.
Kashmir today reported 97 fresh cases of COVID-19.
Those who tested positive include 47 from Srinagar, 17 from Baramulla, 9 from Budgam, 1 from Pulwama, 9 from Kupwara, 2 from Anantnag, 6 from Bandipora, 3 from Ganderbal and 3 from Kulgam.
The number of cases in Kashmir division has reached 214,240 including 210,951 recoveries and 2,319 deaths.
The total number of active cases in Jammu and Kashmir are 1,308 including 970 from Kashmir division.
With 143 more recoveries, the tally of total recoveries in Jammu and Kashmir has reached 334,338 which is 98.28 percent of the total cases.
Meanwhile, 31 persons today tested positive for COVID-19 in the Union Territory of Ladakh.
The UT reported first case of Omicron today.
The Omicron positive was local from Leh with travel history of Nepal.
Among 31 fresh cases, 22 were registered in Leh and nine in Kargil.
Ladakh now has 202 active positive cases including 163 in Leh district and 39 in Kargil.
Meanwhile, 28 new COVID positive cases were recorded in Jammu division today.
They include 20 in Jammu district, three each in Rajouri and Poonch and one each in Udhampur and Doda districts.
Twenty one persons recovered from the virus leaving number of active positive cases in Jammu region to 338.
CMO Jammu Dr JP Singh said a total of 469 persons were tested for COVID-19 at Saraswati Vihar in Talab Tillo Bohri where two Omicron cases were reported yesterday.
“So far, we have received 195 reports and all of them were negative for the virus,” Dr Singh said.
Meanwhile, four members of a family today tested positive at Sector No. 5 at Channi Himmat today.
