Jammu District Administration and Jammu Development Authority deserve kudos for retrieving 250 kanals of land that belongs to the State Government near Sidhra, Jammu and razed many illegally raised structures in the process. It is astonishing to note that the offenders who violated the law by grabbing the land with current market value in crores of Rupees included a senior PDP leader and two police officers.
It may be recalled that the State High Court as also the top administration have been issuing necessary instructions and guidelines in this matter from time to time and that resulted in a well coordinated move by the twin organisations recently in retrieving the prized land near the prestigious Sidhra Golf Course at the bank of river Tawi. The scourge of usurping and illegally constructing structures over the land belonging to forest , JDA and other Government agencies has become deep rooted and political leaders and police officers and other influential people think it as their ‘right’ to do so which must be resisted with the long arms of the law and strict and vigilant administration. Playing political and communal victim card must find no response or any importance attached.
Since theft is an offence and grabbing Government land is a theft , those involved in such acts while being in Government jobs must be dismissed from the services as committing a theft is a criminal offence and under Government service conduct rules , any employee convicted or proven otherwise having committed a theft deserves no leniency. We wish more of such joint combined but effective operations to stem the rot and the rut.
