Osteotomies of lower limb debated

Jammu, June 4: The Jammu Trauma Society today conducted training of Orthopaedic surgeons of Jammu province in order benefit the local population.
In this regard, in association with Jammu and Kashmir Orthopaedic Association, Jammu Trauma Society organised it’s 7th Annual Jammu Trauma and Orthopaedic meet on which was an insightful event. Theme of the meet was “Osteotomies of lower limb”. Graced by the presence of senior orthopaedic surgeons of Jammu as well as from various parts of the country, the function began with lamp lighting ceremony.
The opening remarks were given by Dr Sanjeev Gupta, Professor and Head, Department of Orthopaedics, GMC Jammu. The event started with a pre-conference workshop on lower limb osteotomies moderated by Dr Mangal Parihar who is a renowned Ilizarov and limb reconstruction surgeon of international fame from Mumbai.
The workshop was attended by more than 75 orthopaedic surgeons from J&K, Punjab and Himachal Pardesh. The workshop was followed by talks from experts. The presentors included Dr.N K Magu from Delhi who deliberated on correction of deformities and shared his 40 years of orthopaedic experience with the other orthopaedic surgeons, Dr.Ajit Saigal from Banaras, the inventor of a special plate for leg bones to prevent surgeries for knee replacement taught the other orthopaedic surgeons about the innovative technique, while Dr Altaf Kawoosa from Bones and Joints hospital, Srinagar also shared his orthopaedic experience.
Dr Vipin Sharma, HoD orthopaedics, GMC Tanda, Dr Rajesh Kapila, HoD orthopaedics, GMC Amritsar, Dr Hari Om Agarwal, HoD orthopaedics, GMC Patiala, Dr M. Mohd Younis, Consultant Allahabad were the key resource persons. Dr Rajiv Gupta from Kurukshetra and Dr Tarandeep from Amritsar trained doctors on surgeries for correction of deformities.
A session on work life balance and soft skills was given by Dr.Abdul Ghani, Professor Orthopaedics, GMC Jammu. The closing remarks and the vote of thanks was presented by Organising Secretary Dr Neeraj Mahajan, Consultant, GMC Jammu. The conference was well supported by other faculty members of Gmc Jammu comprising Dr.Bias Dev, Dr.Farooq, Dr.Manish,Dr. Farid, Dr.Anoop, Dr.Tahir, and Dr.Sumit. The conference was attended by more than 250 orthopaedic surgeons from J&K, Punjab, Himachal Pardesh and Haryana.
