Pulwama, Mar 5: Acting on the High Court directions, Pulwama Municipal Committee (PMC) today seized at least 2500 kilograms of polythene from two whole sellers and stockists.
Officials said the huge quantity of polythene was seized in Murran Chowk and Sirnoo areas of the town after raids from PMC officials and was handed over to Jammu and Kashmir Pollution Control Board (JKPCB).
Anees Ahmad Chowdery, Executive Officer PMC, said the banned polythene bags were seized from whole sellers and stockists.
“Today’s drive was in continuation with the comprehensive anti-polythene drive by the PMC which had formulated and deployed special anti-polythene teams in the town after massive awareness programs,” Chowdery said.
He said: “We have declared an all out war against the menace of polythene. Coming days will see more drives against the menace, which includes education and awareness about ill-effects of polythene.”
Chowdery also said they have warned all the polythene traders to shut their illegal polythene business by March 03.
He said those found guilty of carrying this illegal business in the town would be punished by District Magistrate as per laws.
