25037 traffic challans, 492 electricity disputes settled in Special Lok Adalat

JAMMU, June 8: In a significant legal initiative, Special Lok Adalats focusing on traffic challans and electricity bills were held across multiple districts in Jammu & Kashmir, in accordance with directives from the J&K Legal Services Authority.
These sessions, held under the patronage of Justice N Kotiswar Singh, Chief Justice of the High Court of J&K and Ladakh, and with the approval of Justice Tashi Rabstan, Executive Chairman of the J&K Legal Services Authority, along with guidance from Justice Sindhu Sharma, Chairperson of the High Court Legal Services Committee, led to the settlement of numerous cases and substantial recoveries.
Data from various District Legal Services Authorities in J&K reveals that a total of 26,006 traffic challans and 767 electricity disputes were addressed in the Special Lok Adalat.
Out of these, 25,037 traffic challans and 492 electricity disputes were amicably settled, resulting in a total recovery of Rs 1,02,56,419, providing significant relief to litigants.
Districts Jammu and Srinagar were particularly noteworthy, settling 11,887 and 10,814 cases respectively, which accounted for about 90% of the total cases disposed off in the Special Lok Adalat.
Member Secretary of the J&K Legal Services Authority, Amit Kumar Gupta, lauded the efforts of officers and officials of the District Legal Services Authorities in Jammu and Srinagar. Gupta informed media persons that this was the sixth Special Lok Adalat of the current calendar year. He encouraged advocates and litigants to take full advantage of such sessions organized by the J&K Legal Services Authority.
In Jammu, the Special Lok Adalat was conducted under the chairmanship of Sanjay Parihar, Principal District & Sessions Judge, and the supervision of Smriti Sharma, Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority. Six benches managed the cases related to traffic challans and electricity bills. Notably, Bench 1, led by Parveen Pandoh (Special Mobile Magistrate Traffic, Jammu), and Bench 2, led by Vinod Kumar (Electricity Magistrate, Jammu), significantly contributed to the resolution of 11,887 out of 11,911 cases, with a recovery of Rs 27,30,032.
In Samba, under the supervision of Adnan Sayeed, Chairman of the District Legal Services Authority, two benches settled 297 out of 301 cases, recovering Rs 2,67,300. Bhaderwah saw the involvement of Sub-Judge Umesh Sharma, Secretary Romesh Lal, and Munsiff Junaid Imtiaz in the successful settlement of numerous cases.
In Kathua, session, led by Ashok Kumar Shavan, Chairman of the District Legal Services Authority, managed 187 traffic challan cases, all of which were settled, resulting in a recovery of Rs 2,34,500.
In Udhampur, under the chairmanship of Haq Nawaz Zargar and the supervision of Secretary Ajay Kumar, five benches settled 288 traffic challans, realizing a fine of Rs 2.41 lakh from offenders. The DLSA Udhampur aimed to achieve amicable settlements to reduce the burden on regular courts.
