NEW DELHI, Oct 4:
The 26/11 key handler and LeT terrorist Abu Jundal was today remanded in judicial custody by a Delhi court after the Mumbai ATS produced him before it saying he was no longer wanted for his interrogation in cases registered against him in Maharashtra.
Jundal was produced before Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Vidya Parkash by the Mumbai ATS and was sent to Tihar jail.
Mumbai ATS had secured his custody from the Delhi court earlier on July 21 for interrogation of his roles in the Aurangabad arms haul case, the 26/11 Mumbai mayhem, the German bakery blast and the Nasik Academy attack.
Meanwhile, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) told the CMM’s court that a fresh production warrant for Jundal was issued by its designated court for October 8 while its earlier application for permission for his production before the NIA court is already pending before the CMM’s court.
At this, the CMM ordered for Jundal’s production before before the NIA’s designated court on October 8.
“Having regard to the entire facts and circumstances of the case…Present accused Syed Zaibuddin alias Abu Jundal is directed to be produced before court of H S Sharma, special NIA judge on October 8.
“Direction be issued to concerned jail superintendent to produce the present accused in muffled face before special court of NIA on October 8,” the court ordered.
The NIA has been seeking Jundal’s custody in connection with an FIR registered earlier this year following unearthing of a Lashkar-e-Toiba’s conspiracy for terror strikes across India.
Pursuant to the CMM’s directions, Jundal was also given a copy of the main charge sheet filed by Special Cell of Delhi Police against 15 alleged Indian Mujahideen operatives and a supplementary charge sheet filed against him.
The court asked Jundal to go through the charge sheet and let it know if it is lacking in any aspect or documents. (PTI)
