2630 bottles of liquor seized ahead of polling

UDHAMPUR, Sept 29: Ahead of polling in the area, District Police Udhampur today seized huge quantity of liquor and arrested the accused persons.
While 1630 bottles of liquor were seized in Ramnagar, 1000 more liquor bottles were recovered in Chenani, this evening.
Police team of PS Ramnagar in collaboration with FST team, while performing naka checking near Ghas Mandi Ramnagar, intercepted one auto bearing registration number JK14J-2767. On checking, 33 boxes (1630 bottles of 180ml each) of liquor were recovered from the said vehicle following which Police arrested the auto driver, identified as Gorkhu Ram, son of Churu Ram of Kanah, Tehsil Ramnagar.
In this regard, a case FIR No. 92/2024 under section 48 (a) Excise Act has been registered in Police Station Ramnagar and investigation taken up.
Meanwhile, a team of Police Station Chenani, in collaboration with FST team, raided rented room of one person namely Sarjan , son of Tej Narayan of Sita Mari, A/P Chenani and recovered 1000 bottles of illicit liquor from his room. The accused person was also arrested on the spot.
In this regard, another case FIR No. 156/2024 , under section 48 (a) Excise Act has been registered in Police Station Chenani.
Pertinently to mention that, District Police Udhampur have registered 37 cases in which 640 litres of illicit liquor was recovered during the ongoing Assembly election process.
