UDHAMPUR, Jan 1: Udhampur Police today seized more than 27 kg of contraband substance (poppy straw) from two inter-State narcotic smugglers at Chenani.
According to SSP Udhampur Rajiv Pandey, a Police Party of PS Chenani, led by SHO Sanjeet Sharma, under the supervision of SDPO Chanderjeet Singh, laid a naka at Motor Shed on the National Highway Chenani and intercepted one Mahindra pick up Truck, bearing registration number HP78- 4076, which was subjected to thorough search. During the search, 27.3 Kg poppy straw was recovered from the said vehicle.
Police arrested the accused smugglers, identified as Jeevan Jyoti, son of Jagdish Chand of Lower Badher, (HP), Surjeet Singh, son of Wazir Singh of Shapro, Tehsil Bagana (HP) and seized the poppy straw as well as the vehicle.
In this connection, a case FIR No. 01/19 U/S 8/15 NDPS has been registered at Police Station Chenani and further investigation of the case is going on.
