UDHAMPUR, May 28: 27 passengers were injured, six of them seriously, when a rashly driven Doda bound bus skidded off the road and turned turtle near Birma Bridge bypass on the National Highway Udhampur.

The accident took place in the wee hours today, around 3.30 a.m when the passenger bus, bearing registration number JK02B-4355, was on its way from Jammu to Gandoh Doda. Driver of the bus was allegedly under the influence of liquor and lost control on the over-speeding vehicle, which skidded off the road and turned turtle, resulting into injuries to the passengers.
The injured were rushed to District Hospital Udhampur, where six of them were referred to GMC Hospital Jammu in view of their critical condition.
According to the passengers, the bus was overloaded and over-speeding while its driver was apparently under the influence of liquor, which led to the accident. The driver fled from the spot after the accident while Police has registered a case in this connection.
The injured, referred to GMC Hospital Jammu, were identified as Sapoora (55), wife of Said Mohd of Kathua, Jai Din (25) son of Sabu Din of Sitapur UP, Shahzad (4) son of Arshad Hussain of Chhalar Doda, Arshad Hussain (34) son of Umar Din of Doda, Akhtar Hussain (50) son of Mir Hussain of Pura Bala Gandoh and Fatina (34) wife of Arshad Ahmed of Doda.
The others injured, undergoing treatment at District Hospital Udhampur, were identified as Gh Hassan (55), son of Abdul Gani of Doda, Ranjana wife of Romesh Kumar of Channi, Maneer Ahmed (32), son of Mohd Amin of Chhalar Gandoh, Koushal Kumar (40) son of Nek Ram of Gandoh, Farooq Ahmed (30) son of Gh Nabi of Luadu Gandoh, Mohd Ashfaq (21) son of Mohd Ayoub of Sitapur UP, Mohd Irfan (22) son of Mohd Yaseen of Sitapur UP, Muneer Ahmed (18) son of Gh Mustfa of Thaloran Gandoh, Bibi Begum wife of Mohd Asril of Alni Gandoh, Mohd Shafi (31) son of Sharif Ul Hassan of Sitapur UP, Rehamt Ali (14) son of Ali Hussain of Hoshiarpur Punjab, Shakeena (14) daughter of Alim Din of Jarai Kathua, Roshan Bibi (18), daughter of Sain Mohd of Kathua Gujjar Basti, Nazia (17) daughter of Ali Hussain of Kathua, Iqbal Bano (40) wife of Marid Hussain of Kathua, Shakura (19) daughter of Barkat Ali of Jalandhar, Mohd Arshad (20) son of Sadiq Ali of SitaPur UP, Mohd Sartaj (21) Bhud Din of SitaPur UP, Taj Mohd (28) son of Mohd Din of Sitapur UP, Parveen Akhter (16) daughter of Dilmir of Kathua and Shakina (15) daughter of Beeru of Kathua.
