270 kg sweets prepared under unhygienic condition destroyed

*11 food establishments challaned

JAMMU, Oct 26: About 270 kg sweets prepared under unhygienic conditions was destroyed whereas 11 food business operators were challaned and business activities of three were stopped during a special drive conducted today by the Food Safety wing, Jammu of Drug and Food Control Organization in city and its outskirts.
A team of Food Safety officers headed by Dr Parvesh Kumar, Assistant Commissioner, Food Safety, Jammu inspected various food establishments viz sweet shops, restaurants, dhabas, bakery shops at Janipur, New Plot, Sarwal, Bus stand, Gandhi Nagar, Kunjwani, Gangyal and Digiana.
During the drive, samples of milk, khoya, paneer, gulab jamun, boondhi, fenni, katlamas, namkeens, and other sweets were lifted and sent to the laboratory for detection of adulteration. Eleven food business operators were also challaned under insanitary and unhygienic conditions.
Amongst those challaned were Maha Lakshmi Khoya Bhandar at Bus Stand, Prem Sweets, Manohar Bakery Food Point at New plot, New Jai Maa Shakti Petha House, Jai Vaishno Petha Food Products, Jai Maa Shakti Petha House at Kanji House, Sharma Sweet Shop, Gian Cooked Meat, Jangi Fish (Gole Market), Krishan Sweets at Uttam Nagar, Ram Dass Sweets at Gangyal and Sardar ji Sweets at Digiana.
Moreover, during the drive production of three whole sale manufacturers of sweets namely Krishan Sweets, Ram Dass sweets and Sardar ji Sweets were stopped as they were manufacturing the sweets under insanitary and unhygienic conditions and infrastructures of their premises were not up to standards as per FSSAI.
The samples were also lifted from Pahalwans at Gandhi Nagar, Vaid Milk Products (Surya) at Gandhi Nagar, Pradhan Sweets at New Plot, Prem sweets at New Plot for ascertaining standard of purity.
Moreover, during drive, 270 kg of sweets was destroyed on spot which was manufactured under unsanitary and unhygienic conditions. The team also conducted drive Act to find out the vendors selling cigarettes without warning signs over it.
The inspecting team was comprised of Food Safety officers Daleep Singh, Hans Raj Andotra, Ajay Khajuria and Pervaiz Ahmed.
Meanwhile, the Food Safety wing Jammu also initiated zone wise checking of milk sellers who sells milk to shop keepers where in Canal Road, Bantalab and Janipur area has been covered so far by utilizing the mobile van laboratory in which 28 samples of milk were analysed on the spot and several legal samples were lifted and sent to food testing laboratory for further analysis.
