Srinagar, Aug 25: As many as 2708 persons have been killed and 23, 243 persons injured in road accidents across the State in just two and half years.
553 persons were killed and 4809 injured in 3394 road accidents which have taken place across the State in just seven months of this year.
In reply to a question of MLC Dharambir Singh Oberoi in the Legislative Council, Minister for Transport, Chowdhary Mohammad Ramzan informed the Council that in 2012, 1165 people were killed while 9755 were injured in 6709 accidents that happened across the State.
Ramzan said during the year 2013, 6469 accidents took place in the State in which 990 people were killed and 8681 suffered injuries.
The Minister in another question regarding the women traffic cops deployment in Srinagar city, said presently no women traffic cops have been deployed in the city.
The Minister also said that comparing the figures of last three years-2012, 2013 and 2014 (upto July) indicate the number of road accidents are considerably decreasing.
