JAMMU, July 28: The 27676 people, who used pedal-assist bicycles for transport, recreational or exercise purposes since the launch of the bikes under the Jammu Smart City Project in May 2022, have saved 18170 Kilograms of carbon in Jammu City. So far, 720 pedal-assist bicycles have been deployed across the city for the users.
Overwhelmed by the success of the pedal-assist bikes, the team of Jammu Smart City Project is all set to introduce 100 e-bicycles within a month or so.
E-bicycle has both pedal assist and throttle for acceleration. While the top speed of the e-bicycle is 25 Kmph it can cover a distance of 30 Km when fully charged. E-bicycle can be remotely controllable and it can be switched off or on remotely. Equipped with GPRS and GPS technology, e-bicycle is sturdy, lightweight and has antitheft mechanisms as well.
“From May 1, 2022 i.e. the date of launch of the pedal-assist bicycles in the city to July 27, 2023, 27676 people took 383207 rides covering a distance of 72682 Km. And using these bikes, they save a total of 18170 Kilograms of Carbon,” Ashish Anand, GM Finance, Jammu Smart City Limited (JSCL) told the Excelsior.
He said, “within a month or so, we’re also launching 100 e-bicycles for the users in the Jammu City.”
Pertinently, under the Jammu Smart City Project, 600 subsidized e-rickshaws/e-autos are also functional on the Jammu roads.
