JAMMU, Apr 15: Reiterating that restriction on the internet speed has reduced incidents of misuse of social media without posing any hindrance to COVID-19 control measures, the Department of Home, J&K Government, today ordered the continuance of 2G mobile data services only till April 27 in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
As per an order in this regard, issued today by Principal Secretary, Home Department, Shaleen Kabra, the internet speed on mobile data services shall be restricted to 2G only from April 16, 2020 till April 27, 2020, unless modified earlier.
While the Postpaid SIM card holders shall continue to be provided access to the internet, these services shall not be made available on prepaid SIM cards, unless verified as per the norms applicable for postpaid connections. Fixed line internet connectivity shall continue to be made available with Mac-binding.
Giving reasons for restricting the internet speed in view of the overall security scenario in J&K Union Territory, the Home Ministry order has given reference of the incidents of circulating photographs of terrorists and mobilizing crowds to attend funeral of a terrorist defying lockdown and throwing social distancing norms to the wind.
