Srinagar, Nov 23 : Police today arrested three persons allegedly involved in the killing of a salesman of Kashmiri Pandit businessman in the old city area of Srinagar early this month.
Militants had killed one Ibrahim Ahmad, Salesman at Sandeep Mawa’s Shop, near Bohri Kadal area of Srinagar on 9th November. Later Mawa said that he was the main target.
Police said that a case (FIR number 86/2021 under relevant sections of law) was registered at Police Station Maharaj Gunj and to investigate the said case, a special investigation team was constituted.
Police said that during the course of investigation, officers learnt about the involvement of three accused persons identified as Aejaz Ahmad Lone, Naseer Ahmad Shah and Showkat Ahmad Dar—residents of Lelhar Pulwama in the act. “They were arrested and during questioning they confessed their involvement”, Police added.
Police further said that preliminary investigations revealed that they were linked to The Resistance Front and had executed the attack on the directions of militant handler from across the border.
“It was further revealed that the arrested trio has been in touch with Pak based militant handlers for the last four months. On their disclosure, the weapon of offence-pistol along with 7 rounds and other incriminating materials including a grenade have been recovered from their possession. Besides, the Alto car which was used during the commission of crime on the day of attack has also been seized on their disclosure,” police said.
In the meantime, Police during routine naka checking recovered a pistol from a vehicle but the driver along with the vehicle managed to flee from the spot.
Police said that one person boarding the vehicle was arrested and is presently being questioned. He said that during routine naka checking at Arwani bridge on new National Highway, a police party recovered one pistol from a vehicle—Vitara Breeza.
“While the person detained is presently being questioned, the main culprit absconded from the spot along with vehicle and efforts are underway to trace him,” Police said.
“It was not immediately known if the man detained had taken the lift in the vehicle or knew the owner”, Police said.
