The suspended engineers—Muhammad Noordin, Zaffar Ahmed and Muhammad Saleem—were found absent from their assigned areas, where they were expected to help clear snow and provide relief to residents.
An official inquiry revealed that Noordin was found in Chadoora, Zaffar Ahmed in Janglatmandi Anantnag, and Saleem in Srinagar, far from their designated snow clearance zones.
The DDC Shopian expressed concern over their unauthorized absence during a critical time when the district was focused on managing the impact of heavy snowfall.
“The action on the part of the AEEs is unbecoming of a public servant and dereliction of duty that too during a period when whole administrative machinery of Shopian is involved in snow clearance and providing relief to the citizens,” read an order issued by DDC Shopian.
Accordingly, he suspended the engineers and attached them to the 24×7 Control Room in Shopian until further investigation, which will be led by the Additional District Development Commissioner.
“They (suspended engineers) shall reach the control room forthwith. No salary in their favour shall be drawn by the concerned DDOs till the conclusion of inquiry followed by departmental action,” the order further said.
